for Portland Community College (PCC) Board - Zone 4
Why I'm running...
I come from a long line of educators, from public elementary school to university, and all things in between. I grew up raised by my mom, a teacher, with help from grandparents, but job insecurity from one school year to the next meant we ended up moving a lot and I attended many different schools. This experience taught me how important it is to support students and working families by making sure they have access to high-quality public education, workforce development resources, and wrap-around services like childcare, healthcare, and financial aid.
After receiving a BA in Geology from Boston University, I moved to Portland almost 12 years ago, residing in NW Portland with my husband and our Border Collie-mix, Soda. I completed an MS in Geology at PSU and an MBA at Willamette University, and have been active in social justice movements, serving as Board Chair of the Crag Law Center, and Chair of Portland’s Open and Accountable Elections Commission. I have seen how hard many struggle to gain access to education and I will work every day to make sure Portland Community College has stable funding to support its students, programs, and staff.
